Energy Optimization of Distributed Pipelined Processors by Combined Data Compression and Functional Partitioning

چکیده
Transmitting compressed data can reduce inter-processor communication traffic and create new opportunities for DVS (dynamic voltage scaling) in distributed embedded systems. However, data compression alone may not be effective unless coordinated with functional partitioning. This paper presents a dynamic programming technique that combines compression and functional partitioning to minimize energy on multiple voltage-scalable processors running pipelined dataregular applications under performance constraints. Our algorithm computes the optimal functional partitioning, CPU speed for each node, and their respective compression ratios. We validate the algorithm’s effectiveness on a real distributed embedded system that running an image processing algorithm.

A Parallel Pipelined Renderer for Time-Varying Volume Data
This paper presents a strategy for efficiently rendering time-varying volume data on a distributed-memory parallel computer. Visualizing time-varying volume data take both large storage space and long computat ion time. Instead of employing all processors to render one volume at a time, a pipelined rendering approach partitions processors into groups so that multiple volumes can be rendered con...
متن کاملENERGY AWARE DISTRIBUTED PARTITIONING DETECTION AND CONNECTIVITY RESTORATION ALGORITHM IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
Mobile sensor networks rely heavily on inter-sensor connectivity for collection of data. Nodes in these networks monitor different regions of an area of interest and collectively present a global overview of some monitored activities or phenomena. A failure of a sensor leads to loss of connectivity and may cause partitioning of the network into disjoint segments. A number of approaches have be...
متن کاملA Rotate-Tiling Image Composition Method for Parallel Volume Rendering on Distributed Memory Multicomputers
The binary-swap and the parallel-pipelined methods are two popular image composition methods for volume rendering on distributed memory multicomputers. However, these methods either restrict the number of processors to a power of two or require many steps to transform image data that results in high communication overheads. In this paper, we present an efficient image composition method, the ro...

A method for efficient implementation of a combined spectral finite difference algorithm for computation of incompressible stratified turbulent flows on distributed memory computers is presented. The solution technique is the fractional step method with a semi-implicit time advancement scheme. A single-programme multiple-data abstraction is used in conjunction with a static data-partitioning sc...
متن کاملOptimization of Energy Consumption in Image Transmission in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) using a Hybrid Method
In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), sensor nodes have limited resources with regard to computation, storage, communication bandwidth, and the most important of all, energy supply. In addition, in many applications of sensor networks, we need to send images to a sink node. Therefore, we have to use methods for sending images in which the number and volume of packets are optim...
